Football Manager Diary – September
We left our last installment with West Ham 15th in the table with 1 win from 3 Premiership games. The end of the transfer window is usually 31st of August, but as that landed on a Saturday its been moved to the 2nd of September, so Ive got 2 days to make any squad improvements!
Ultimately the plan has to be another striker. Petric appears to be workig hard, but he cant play every game. I’m resigned to not selling McCartney, Adrian and Vaz Te so I take them off the transfer list. Diarra just wont leave, and at 60k a week in wages you cant blame him.
But its time for my favourite FM day.
Matty Taylor is subject to a bid of 250k from Cardiff, so he’s gone. Jaaskelainen gets an offer of 0 from Anji, but Im happy to get the contract off the wage list, so he’s gone.
First signing comes in, and its a stiker as needed. Ive managed to grab Park Chu-Young from Arsenal on a loan
I’ve also bagged another loan signing, Simone Padoin.
He can play across the midfield, giving me a good bit of cover.
With just 15 minutes left on deadline day I also make a signing which as I sit here now, I regret. I signed a 32 year old English striker, who’s averaged out over his career at 1 goal every 4 games, and has commanded fees of over 43 million.
Ive paid a paltry 800k, but Ive also given him a RIDICULOUS contract at 39k a week for 2 years.
What the fuck have I done.
I’m filled with instant regret, the contract is way bigger than I’d offer for a player of his skill at his age.
With the transfer window wrapped up lets have a look at how we did
Couple of young players and Keita on frees. The young guys are for the future more, while Keita is an ok squad player on only 7k a week
Sommer looks an excellent signing – since he missed the City game technically he’s only conceeded one goal in his two games which were against United and Spurs. Benayoun has ended up being a straight swap for Nolan, but on less wages, plus can play in more positions.
The two loanees should be ok, but we shall have to see.
Quite a few youngsters going out on loan. For proper transfers pleased to get what I did for Demel and Maiga, Nolan ultimately was a choice to sell given his contract, and Matty Taylor was never going to break into the first team. I would have liked to keep Jaaskelainen and sell Adrian – but Adrian is a decade younger so probably a good decision to get rid.
Outside of us the other big transfers were
Lucas Leiva – 23million Liverpool to Man City
Arda Turan – 20million Athletico to Spurs
Claudio Yacob – 12.25million West Brom to Chelsea
Our fixtures for the month look like this
15th September 2013 – West Ham (15th) vs Everton (12th) – Barclays Premiership
Odds – West Ham: 6-4 (fav) – Draw: 2-1 – Everton: 13-8
First match where we’re favourites in the league. Oof
I’m going to play my 4-2-3-1. For some reason Everton start a young keeper called Joel for his 1st appearence, I cant see why – Howard isnt injured. Luckily for me Lukaku is out.
Early exchanges see it go a bit back and forth with no real team dominating. Sonnen makes a good save from Miralles, then Crouch heads his first chance over as we start to take control of the game. At half time Everton are edging posession by 56-44 but we’ve had 7 shots to their 2.
In the second half we get a break through, Winston Reid heads in from a corner. With half an hour gone Crouch is struggling with a light injury so I prepare a sub, but before it can go through Crouch plays a crazy backpass which Miralles steals and scores. Cuntng cunt Crouch.
4 minutes after the sub Winston Reid brings down Miralles, and hes the last man. Fucking twatting sent off. I sub on Collins for Benayoun…. and 3 minutes later he puts us in front from a corner! Petric hits the post just after.
With 10 minutes to go we’re looking ok, till Gibson hits a speculative shot which Sonnen really should have saved. All of a sudden we’re under the cosh. Rat clears off the line twice, then Sonnen makes up for his error with a great save.
Its been another great performance from Rat. Overall I cant be too unhappy.
West Ham 2-2 Everton
Reid (50), Reid sent off (67)m Collins (70) – Mirrales (64), Gibson (80)
League position – 15th
Nothing happens between the matches.
21st September 2013 – Liverpool (9th) vs West Ham (15th)
Odds – Liverpool: Evens (fav) – Draw: 11-5 – West Ham: 11-5
Collins comes in for Reid. For Liverpool Sturridge and Suarez are out.
Within 30 seconds Crouch fluffs a great chance from a cross. Coutinho has a shot well saved by Sonnen. Crouch breaks at the other end and fires straight at the keeper. The game starts to settle, till a deep fros from Aspas finds Coutinho unmarked and he smashes home. Straight after they break again and Tomkins hits the cross into his own net. Joe Cole has to go off injured after 30mins, and so I bring on Matt Jarvis. Straight after Tomkins almost makes up for things by heading against the bar.
The second half is slow, with an hour gone I bring on Morrison for Benayoun, and Petric for Crouch. Morrison hits the side netting and Tomkins heads just wide, Downing hits the post, and Rat fires straight at the keeper as we pressure, but its to no avail. Liverpoool see out their win.
Liverpool 2-0 West Ham
Coutinho (24), Tomkins og (27)
League Position – 17th
Bit frustrating, but at least we’re starting to play a little more.
Next up its a break from the league
24th September 2013 – West Ham vs Ipswich – Capital One Cup
Odds – West Ham: Evens (fav) – Draw: 11-5 – Ipswich: 11-5
I play all my back up players in this match.
FOR FUCKS SAKE
Right. No fucking about.
End this month with a win
29th September 2013 – West Ham (18th) vs West Brom (19th) – Barclays Premiership
Odds – West Ham: 5-4 (fav) – Draw: 11-5Â – West Brom 7-4
I tell the team I’ll accept nothing but a win.
Within 3 minutes we already have two yellows, for my two centre backs. Its inevitable now isnt it, one of my cunting centre backs is gonna get sent off. I’ll fucking type it out now – “And its a red card for my centreback _____”. There its ready. Get sent off now you cunts. Fucking bollocks this stupid fucking game.
Crouch puts in Diame in the 7th minute but his shot is tipped around the post. We are absolutely dominating the match, and on the half hour it pays off, Tomkins gets his head to a corner and Reid heads in! Woop! The centre backs have combined to score!
At half time I tell the lads to kick on. Diame and Noble both hit decent chances over. Noble then picks up an injury, so I bring on Ravel and Benayoun for him and Collison.
Two minutes later I score again from a corner, this time its Tomkins heading straight in. CENTREBACKS OWN
West Brom start to come more into the game, but as the attack Downing steals the ball and runs up the wing, passes to Crouch at the edge of the box and he SMASHES HOME SHAJKDNFVDFMFDFM 3-0
Straight off kick off West Brom play a long ball which Long gets to, and its 3-1. For fucks sake. West Brom start to push forward, and Long manages to get behind the defence again, but his shot is saved. With 5 minutes to go Aranguiz gets in, and he scores. 3-2.
I’m all out defence at this point, desperate for the three points.
Which I get. Thank fuck. Im so Happy
West Ham 3-2 West Brom
Reid (29) Tomkins (57) Crouch (62) – Long (63) Araguiz (82)
League position – 12th
Thank fuck for that. A tense month where it looks finally like my formations may be starting to work.
We finish the month with the 4 points we targeted, but without the cup win. Fucking fuming.
I dont get anything in the monthly awards, but I notice this
It was a shitty cunting goal
Board confidence comes in
And to end the month here’s the table
Another tough month. Sigh.
