Football Manager Diary – January 2015 – Crouchy :(

Football Manager 2014 LogoSo at the end of the last installment we got some shocking and sad news

crouch fansCrouchys been a good servant but lately his performances have been a tad frustrating. Maybe its time for Crouchy to leave us?

Heres the fixtures for the month

Fix JanAnd how the league stands

dec tableWith Crouchys possible departure in mind theres another issue to address, we are now in the January window and now is when we would like to look at some transfers, but we’ve had an issue where the games bugged out and put all the money into the wage budget, and wont let me move it out of it

So its time to go cap in hand to the board

board meet

With that sorted, we can now move the sliders, and drop the wage budget and get around 10 million in transfer budget.

Its also time to move on some players. Downing and Jones, who both are on around 50k a week are both listed. I’ll even let Jones be released by my assistant if he wont go.

Looking at the side we also have Winston Reid and Mark Noble in the squad who have contracts up at the end of the season. Both want over 35k a week, so I decide to risk losing them both as I can see both being replaced at the end of the season.

Theres no time for that tho now, its FA Cup time

3-1-2015 – West Ham vs Macclesfield

Time for some of the young lads to get a run out. Somehow Ive also managed to put Schneiderlin in defence instead of Derrik. Lol. 4 of their players are on 50% or less fitness, so theres no excuse to lose here.

16 minutes in we get a pen, and Noble puts it away. At this point I figure fuck it, and put Schneiderlin into midfield so I have a 1 man central defence. Vydra gets a second after 24 mins, Morrisson gets on the score sheet on the 32nd minute, getting on his own rebound, then a second on 37, and completes his hat trick on 37. At half time we have had 75% possession and 15 shots.

At half time I move the full backs into wing back positions. Fuck it, lets go for it. With 20 mins in we havent scored, so I make the sub, bringing on Andy for Juanmi. As Andys waiting to come on tho, Juanmi scores. Typical. Vydra hits the post twice as we just seem like not scoring. Vydra finally gets one on the 83rd. Carroll looks to score in the 87th, but Chilvers gets on the end of it and puts in his own net. Vydra bags his hat trick in the 93rd minute.

Great win!

macc stats

West Ham 9-0 Macclesfield
Noble (pen 17), Vydra (25, 82, 94), Morrison (32, 37, 40), Juanmi (65), Chilvers OG (87)

Well the idea of shortening match descriptions was somewhat fucked there by us scoring 9.

After the match I end Padoins loan. He’s not making the appearances.

7-1-2015 – West Ham (8th) vs Arsenal (12th)

Weirdly Arenal are having a mare of a season. The game itself takes pretty much till the second half to start. After a dead 1st half I bring on Morrison for Bradley and put him behind the strikers instead of a DM with Ledley moving to midfield. It makes a difference as we take the lead through Schneiderlin, but Arsenal hit back after Ozil beats the defence to put Vela in to score. Valdes makes a series of saves as Arsenal press and we manage to hold on.

arse stats

West Ham 1-1 Arsenal
Schneiderlin (56) – Vela (68)
League Position – 8th

No ones bidding for Jones or Downing, despite there being interest, so I sneakily go to one of the clubs interested in each and offer for one of their shit youth players, for a straight swap.

10-1-2015 – Norwich (9th) vs West Ham (8th)

A game thats played mainly on the break for us, with Zaha in good form. Its Norwich who take the lead tho, with Vilhena scoring. I push forward, make subs but Rodriguez seals the win in the 90th minute

nor stats

Norwich 2-0 West Ham
Vilhena (28), Rodriguez (90)
League Position – 9th

I make my first signing. Jide Gordon from Wigan for 3.8k (Plus Stewart Downing) The mugs! Thats 35k off the wage budget

17-1-2015 – West Ham (10th) vs Leicester (3rd)

Carrolls back! And it takes him 8 minutes to get off the mark, scoring his 10th of the season after getting on a Bradley long ball. On 14 minutes he gets a second. On 18 hes fouled in the box, and he takes and scores the penalty! What a man. On 24 we score another, Ledley from a corner. With such a dominating performance I take the foot off the gas. They pull a goal back in the 83rd, but otherwise its hakuna matatta (it means no worries)

lics stats

West Ham 4-1 Leicester
Carroll (8, 15, pen 18) Ledley (24) – Boyd (84)
League position – 7th!!!!

Still no movement on the transfer front. I’m finding a lot of the players who’d significantly improve the team want around 70-100k a week, which is the very high end of my wage budgets. Given the flop in signing an admittedly older Jermaine Jones on 50k a week I’m keen not to do the same again. Also under consideration is instead buying some fringe players with high potential – but thats a risk given we need the results now.

20-1-2015 – Hull (20th) vs West Ham (8th)

We cant lose this. We take the lead just before the half hour mark, good work from Zaha and Coleman puts Zaha in to finish. At the half tho Hull are looking dangerous, so Im delighted that from their corner a long ball finds Carroll who smashes home. Get in. With 18 minutes to go Zaha wins a pen, and Carrolls pen is saved! He gets hauled off for that. Its all Hull from then on, but Morrisson off the bench grabs a third to kill the game.

hull stats

Hull 0-3 West Ham
Zaha (28) Carroll (53) Morrison (77)
League Position – 6th

I make a signing, and its possibly my 1st and only one of the transfer budget. I bag Kondogbia, a DM for 12.5 million.

kondogbia2 kondogbia
He’s got the stats and the age that he could be in the team for a decade.

Next up is the cup, and this will be the 3rd year in a row we face Yeovil in the cup. Weird.

24-1-2015 – FA Cup – West Ham vs Yeovil

Poor passing lets us down in the 1st half, with a few chances ended by a bad final ball. At the half I have to bring on Rat for O’Brien whos picked up a light injury, and I throw on Andy Carroll too. Its Yeovil who get the break through when Hangeland heads in his own net from a corner. I throw the men forward. Kondogbia has to come off with an injury just after Ive made a sub to bring on Noble, so I have 10 men. Fuck. Thankfully Noble bags one from a cross. Yeovil then hold out for the draw.

yeovil stats

West Ham 1-1 Yeovil
Noble (78) – Hangeland OG (68)

27-1-2015 – West Ham (6th) vs Watford (16th)

It looks like being one of those matches. In the first half we have 65% possession and 7 shots to their 1, but its goalless. Thankfully the breakthrough comes in the 2nd half, with Zahas cross to Carroll forcing a save, but Chadli gobbles up the rebound. I’m relieved to see Hangeland seals the win with 5 to go, heading in a corner, and with a minute to go Schneiderlin caps it off with a header from a Vydra cross

watford stats

West Ham 2-0 Watford
Chadli (58) Hangeland (85), Schneiderlin (89)
League Position – 5th!

31-1-2015 – Villa (18th) vs West Ham (5th)

Tomkins puts us in the lead with a header from a corner in the 16th minute. Aside from that its a dull half, tho Valdes does make two good saves. In the second half Vydra comes off the bench, and he gets on the score sheet with a quick break from a Villa attack. Aside from that its an uneventful match

Villa stats

West Ham 2-0 Villa
Tomkins (16), Vydra (63)
League Position – 3rd!!!!!

Winston Reid signs a pre contract agreement with Mainz, so he’s off at the end of the season

Jones and Crouchy wont go anywhere, and both are still on the transfer list.

Seman goes out on loan to Betis, I’m a bit worried hes not getting game time and I dont want his development to stall.

We get player of the month, and the second place too!

Rat is rated by my assistant as our worst first teamer, but he weirdly gets great ratings. He’s gonna be a tough one to replace.

We’re pretty close in manager of the month too

Theres two days left in the transfer window, but theres no activity to report, theres just not the right players about for us.

The board are happy.

board end janWell, as happy as they can be with a 1-1 draw at Arsenal, the cunts.

Heres how January’s table looks, and wow what a difference a month makes.

League JanTheres no way we can hold up this pace, but its good to be there now

Up for us in Feb are some fixtures that could make or break us.

fix febNEXT UP IS FEB!
