Football Manager Diary – S2 – Dirty December

Football Manager 2014 LogoSo we’re suffering, there’s no way to avoid mentioning that.. Despite saying we could get the Europa League this year we’re currently struggling

One of the big problems we’ve had is possession. While on many times we’ve had a decent amount of shots, there’s been times where we’ve had around 30-40% possession and that just isn’t acceptable. So its time for an overhaul. This is the tactic I’ve come up with

tactThe striker is going to switch between an advanced forward when Vydra plays, or Target man when Crouch or Carroll play.  Two wingers looking to get crosses in, an advanced playmaker and a box to box midfielder in the middle. The DM is an anchor man, and the defence is pretty standard.

Heres the fixtures for the month

Dec fixAnd heres how the table looks

League novSo its 3 teams below us, and 2 teams above us this month. Should be a fun one!

2nd December 2014 – West Ham (6th) vs Newcastle (12th)
Odds – West Ham 4-5 (fav) – Draw 2-1 – Newcastle 3-1
Past meetings – won 1, lost 1.

newcFirst try for the new tactic!

Valdes makes a great save from Remy, but shortly after more pressure from Remy sees Tomkins head in his own net. Ten minutes after that a ball is chipped over the top by Chadli, and Vydra rounds the keeper to score.

At half time its 1-1.

The second half is pretty boring, for twenty minutes nothing goes on so I bring on Crouch for Vydra, switching Crouch to a target man. I also swap Zaha and Rat for Morrisson and OBrien.

5 minutes before time Chadli gets the ball, gets past two, then crosses

Peter Crouch Robot Dance

CROUCHYS BACK BABY WOOOOOO

Unfortunately with seconds left Cisse gets past his man and Valdes cant get his fingers to it

newc stats

West Ham 2-2 Newcastle
Vydra (24) Crouch (85) – Tomkins og (13) Cisse (91)
League position – 6th

Match thoughts – Crouchy! How good it feels to break out my favourite gif. Chadli was outstanding. Finally looking to click.

Crouch11 matches!

Next up is the surprise league leaders, and some other results have moved us down to 9th

6th December 2014 – West Brom (1st) vs West Ham (9th)
Odds – West Brom 5-4 (fav) – Draw 11-5 – West Ham 7-4
Past Meetings – We’ve won both times we played them

brom

West Brom have beaten all the big boys, and won 4 of their last 5. But in the team is Crouchy, with me switching him to a target man.

Rat hits the bar with a 2nd minute free kick. Valdes saves from Tolivan as West Brom push back. From a West Brom free kick thats launched into the box Bradley fouls someone, and its a pen. Aranguiz scores. Foster makes a great save from a Bradley shot as we push back, and from the corner Hangeland heads in!

At half time I take off Jones whos picked up a light injury for Noble.

It takes 25 minutes to get ahead, Zaha gets tackled but the ball falls to Chadli who smashes home.

Mulumbu equalises with 15 to go, volleying in a headed out corner. I bring on Seman and Vydra for Crouch and Zaha but that it.

brom stats

West Brom 2-2 West Ham
Aranguiz (pen 38), Mulumbu (77) – Hangeland (45) Chadli (68)
League Position – 8th

Match thoughts – 3 draws in a row. I do like that we are geting more possession tho.

Its a massive 15 day rest now. Im not sure why. Andy you fit?

🙁

21st December 2014 – Liverpool (7th) vs West Ham (9th)
Odds – Liverpool Evens (fav) – Draw 11-5 – West Ham 11-5
Past meetings – Won 1, lost 1

Pool

A dead first half, a couple of ranged shots but nothung really.

At the half time I take off Crouch for Vydra.

Liverpool take the lead through Coutinho with 15 minutes of the half gone. We manage to pull one back through Zaha with 10 minutes to go, but Gerrard hits back to take the lead. Cunts. They manage to hold on as well.

pool stats

Liverpool 2-1 West Ham
Coutinho (59) Gerrard (84) – Zaha (79)
League position – 10th

Match thoughts – The matches at the moment are just all highlights = goals.

27th December 2014 – West Ham (10th) vs Man City (6th)
Odds – West Ham 6-4 (fav) – Draw 2-1 – Man City 13-8
Past meetings – Lost 1 Drew 1

City

FAVOURITES? Crouchy experiment is over, hes back to bench duty. Vydra comes back in as an advanced forward.

Its all us early on, Zaha hits the post as it looks like he has the beating of Clichy. At half time we’ve had 5 shots to their 1.

15 minutes in I bring on Juanmi for Zaha and shift Vydra to the RW, and bring of Chadli whos picked up a light injury for Morrisson. Five minutes later the change pays off, Vydra finds space and fires home. Its us who continue with the chances too, with Juanmi shooting wide.

City stats

West Ham 1-0 Man City
Vydra (65)
League Position – 9th

30th December 2014 – Stoke (7th) vs West Ham (9th)
Odds – Stoke 5-4 (fav) – Draw 11-5 – West Ham 7-4
Past Meetings – Won 1 Drew 1

Stoke

Reid gets the 1st goal from a corner. Stoke should equalise after a break but Valdes saves from Arnatovic. Chadli picks up an injury and is subbed for Ravel.

The second half is dead, it says that Stoke keep getting shots but theres 0 highlights, till the 89th minute when Schneiderlin gets the second.

StokeStoke 0-2 West Ham
Reid (21) Schneiderlin (89)
League Position – 7th

So thats the month done. We’ve slipped 1 place, but theres some positives there – we are now getting a bit better possession, but our shots have gone down.

The table looks like this

dec tableFor January this is how we’re looking

Fix JanA lonnng month, but we’re facing 2 of the bottom 4.  With the amount of fixtures I’m thinking of doing more of a synopsis of games rather than analysis with the formations, but if you guys like seeing the formations and stats I can keep doing them?

Board confidence is in

board janHmmmmmmmm….. Crouchy future in doubt?
