Football Manager Diary – January Transfer Window
I’ll be honest, I thought about it all day. Wondered what to do, and when I came home I decided the right thing was to settle down calm down and take the pre agreed Mid-Table finish, and then next year I can crack on
Then when I turn the game on I chose top half finish and said fuck it.
With that done its time to look where we can improve, and what we can do with the squad.
First thing off I offer Diarra, who’s on 60k a week, a mutual termination. He agrees for 2.3 million. Jesus. He would have cost 4.6 million if I kept his contract going, so ultimately it is a saving. Not a single appearance this season, Jesus fucking christ.
I ask the assistant to find a new club or release Vaz Te, and I offer Adrian out.
Petric, Rat, McCartney and Cole all have contracts up at the end of the season. I have a look at renewing but they all want more than I want to pay so I’ll see how that goes.
I cancel Parks loan, hes not getting many appearances off the bench and I’m paying 25k a week for him. I’m gonna keep Padoin though, hes done ok and I only paying 10k a week.
But no time to mess about, we’ve got matches too this month
A tough month. Fuck me, I’d take 3 points out of the entire month.
1st January 2014 – West Ham (6th) vs Spurs (13th)
Odds: West Ham 5-4 (fav) – Draw: 11-5 – Spurs 7-4
Prev results: Won 1-0
All that talk about transfers distracted from one thing
He’s on the bench!
Collins hits the post from a header as we start well. Crouchy steals the ball from Dembele and plays in Downing, but his shot is saved. Its all West Ham. Lamela hits the post from a free kick as they try to push back. Crouchy then hits one wide as we’ve gone 6 shots with none on target.
Turan hits the post for Spurs, then we break, Downing gets past Walker and crosses for CROUUUCCHHYYYYYYY
1-0 West Ham. Perfect for 5 mins before half time.
At the half I tell the lads to kick on.
The second half is pretty uneventful, it takes till the 60th min for a highlight. Crouchy shooting over from range.
With ten minutes to go its time.
Spurs hit back, with Paulinho forcing a save from Sommer.
Then disaster strikes.
Not a goal
Much much worse
West Ham 1-0 Spurs
League Position – 6th
Match thoughts – Who cares what I think, Andy could be fucking out again! A good result, must train the strikers to get shots on target. We still don’t get much possession but I think that’s my formation.
I await the news….
There is none!
There is a board report tho
At least theres this
Next up is the magic of the cup
4th January 2014 – Walsall vs West Ham (FA Cup)
Odds: Walsall 12-1 – Draw 5-1 – West Ham 1-8 (fav)
Play a few reserves.
Not really bothered about this match aside from bringing ANDY on for the last 15 minutes.
Walsall take the lead what the christ. Petric equalises then scores a second, both after great work by Morrison. Walsall score an OG after another great cross from Morrison. Petric completes his hat trick in the 70th minute. Ideal time to be subbed off?? With 15 mins left on come Crouch and Carroll, but neither does anything.
Walsall 1-4 West Ham
Westcarr (3) – Petric (13, 16, 70) Own Goal (44)
Through to the next round!
Match Thoughts – Wish I could get that much possession and shots in the Prem
And we get drawn against Birmingham.
Ive gone in for some CM’s. Anderson and Fletcher from Man United on loan, and also proper bids for Joe Ledley and Michael Bradley. I also go in for Gaitan on loan but he instantly rejects me, twat.
13th January 2014 – Man United (1st) vs West Ham (6th)
Odds: Man United 4-5 (fav) – Draw 2-1 – West Ham 3-1
Prev results – Lost 1-0
Nani scores an amazing goal, chipping the keeper whos barely off his line. Amazing goal after just 9 minutes. Its all United after that, we’re not in the match at all. I tell the lads to counter, but its just wave after wave of attack from United. Sommer saves well from Rooney but he scores the rebound. At the half theyve had 14 shots to our 0, and 66% posession.
Fuck it. At half time Andys on. 4-1-3-2
It starts ok, we get out first shot (from range), but then its back to the old routine, United dominating. We get another chance, Rat fires a free kick in but De Gea saves from Crouchys header. United take a foot off the gas, and we have nothing
Man United 2-0 West Ham
Nani (10) Rooney (26)
League Position – 6th
Match thoughts – Well if I needed any sobering up after recent matches thats done it. and it doesn’t get easier
20th January 2013 – West Ham (6th) vs Man City (3rd)
Odds: I forgot to get these. No one cares tho do they. You dont even read this bit. Cunts
If you cant tell I was a bit stroppy from the last match. I normally write these in real time, as I play. I didnt do that either, after the last match I just wasn’t in the mood. I could go back and rewrite it rewatching the highlights but to be honest, I dont want to.
Match thoughts – Ha, you thought I’d lost didnt you. It was a battling performance, I did switch to the 4132 after 60mins and bring on Andy, but there was no real great chances.
In desperation to bring another CM in I go in for Scott Parker, but my 3 million bid is rejected. I’m away from that one.
Darren Fletcher and Anderson both reject coming to us on loan. I also cant stretch the budget to bring in Michael Bradley, who would be just what I need.
25th January 2014 – West Ham vs Birmingham (FA Cup)
Odds: West Ham 4-5 (fav) – Draw 2-1 – Birmingham 3-1
This would be an ideal match to break out Carroll and Crouch, but Andys still at only 87% match fitness, despite getting a few 45 minute run outs in the reserves, so I’m keeping him benched till the second half.
Andy on for Collison, I move him upfront without any other changes. With 60 mins gone Birmingham are getting more and more chances, so I bring the wingers back to RM and LM, bring on Padoin for Cole and Diame comes off for Morrison.
Downing shoots just wide as we pressure back, but then Brum break and Lovenkrads puts in Zigic to score. Birmingham have been the better team since half time and deserve the goal. and from there, there isnt another highlight all match, despite me making some attacking changes.
West Ham 0-1 Birmingham
Match thoughts : Terrible game. Not too bothered about losing but there was nothing in that performance. I think it might be time to break out Carroll – Crouch.
28th January 2014 – Everton (15th) vs West Ham (6th)
Odds – Everton 6-4 (fav) – Draw 2-1 – West Ham 13-8
Prev Result – Draw 2-2
Our first chance cmes from a corner, Padoin forcing a save from Howard. Everton are all over us, theyve had 8 shots but no highlights by the 30th minute. Jarvis forces a save from Howard, then Jelavic looks like hes gonna score but Sommer makes a great save onto the post.
At the half I switch to the 4132, with Noble coming on for Jarvis, and Diame dropping to DM.
5 minutes into the half the changes take effect. Carrol heads on a ball to Crouch, Noble runs through on the overlap and Crouch puts him in and he chips the keeper! Its still all Everton tho, with 10 minutes to go they finally get a highlight, and Colemans deep cross finds Jelavic who scores. With 5 minutes left Crouch is injured, so on comes Morrison. In injury time Everton get the goal they deserve, Baines finds Brunt who looks offside, but he scores.
Everton 2-1 West Ham
Jelavic (81), Brunt (92) – Noble (50)
League Position – 6th
Match thoughts – Gutted, stupid slagging Martinez off pre match. Need a CM.
Crouchys out for 2 weeks. Gives Andy some proper pressure.
With deadline day on us I finally make some signings
Gaby Mudingayi – CM/DM – Inter Milan on loan – 15k per week
Pretty happy with this, should give me a bit of steel in the midfield. Passing stats are pretty shit, but hes got good stats for the DM role if I start using the 4132 more
Luca Antonelli – DL – Genoa – 500k – 26k per week
Rat at LB has been one of my top performers, but he often ends up over tired, plus hes 32. Antonelli gives me an option in rotation, and ultimately a successor.
And a pretty big one
Jemaine Jones – CM/DM – Schalke 66k – 55k a week
A huge wage and risk here. I managed to get him to agree just to a contract till the end of next season, so theres only a season of risk. A really strong DM, and steel in CM as well
And thats our window.
Nanis goal against us gets Goal of the Month.
Board confidence is in
