Football Manager Diary – August 2015 – Season Starts here
Its time for West Hams first run in the champions league. Come on!
In the last instalment I did all my transfer business, get my squad sorted and then one of my 1st team defenders (Tomkins) gets a long term injury a week before the season starts.
Oh well heres the squad as it stands
Probably lacking some depth in defence and Tomkins injury just makes that worse. For a standard league position I’d be feeling confident but the championship is way out of site, without bringing in some players to add depth and strength we’re nowhere near.
Heres our fixtures for the season
Fuck the fannying around, lets get to our first game
15-8-2015 – West Ham vs Watford
But matches aren’t played on paper, and Watford have the early chances, hitting the post and forcing a great save from Valdes. We start getting the shots, but no goals, so with 20 to go I bring on Hernandez, Morrison and Vydra for Carroll, Chadli and Vydra, and they take just 2 minutes to get the goal, Vydra skips past two then crosses for Morrison to volley in.
West Ham 1-0 Watford
League Position – 5th
Since I need a defender but dont really have anyone I can sell I have to look at the reserves, so I let Giandonato leave to Boro for 750k.
22-8-2015 – Norwich (13th) vs West Ham (9th)
2 minutes in we take the lead with Boyata nodding in a corner. Norwich take a lot of control, so in the second half I bring on Vydra for Carroll, and Pugilese for Kondogbia. Nedelev takes the ball up the right, cuts inside, then smashes in! 2-0 but its still all Norwich, with Valdes pulling off saves from Howson, Snodgrass and Michu.
Norwich 0-2 West Ham
Boyata (2) Nedelev (61)
League Position – 1st!
A lucky escape there, and its no suprise to see almost all our defence makes TOTW
Joe Ledley leaves us for Villa for 2.5 million. I wouldnt have sold him if it wasnt for the defensive injury and a need to bring in players, but the signings of Rafinha and Pugilese have meant we’ve got some good understudys in there.
I watch the whole of the Champs League draw, and we’re one of the two last teams out….
Oh well, it’ll bring some money in!
We also get the Capital One cup draw, and it see’s us play Cardiff on the 22nd of September. We’ve not lost to them in 4 games, but we’ve also never made it out of the cup 3rd round.
Can we make it 5 before the cup match then?
29-8-2015 – West Ham (3rd) vs Cardiff (17th)
Throwing in a couple of changes for this one. It looks like Boyatas settling in well, as he grabs a goal from a corner after 20 mins. Bradley misses a great chance. At half time I bring Pugilese on for Rafinha. He gets put in by Hernandez but misses. Carroll comes on with 10 minutes to go, and he bags his 1st of the season heading in a corner in the dying minutes.
West Ham 2-0 Cardiff
Boyata (21), Carroll (88)
League Position – 1st
Holy shit. 3 wins. 1st in league. COULD THIS BE MANAGER OF THE MONTH
Player of the Month is in, and we get the top two
Nedelev also finishes 3rd in goal of the month. His assists from free kicks and corners have meant that Rat isnt as missed as he could have been.
Next up tho is my FIRST MANAGER OF THE MON..
WHAT THE CHRIST
Fuck this, its DEADLINE DAY
But since Ive no budget, only the money from selling Ledley is available, and I still need a defensive signing.
So I get one on loan.
Nice one big Mert! He’ll miss our next game through injury but after that we’re good to go.
Heres the sexy looking league table
Heres next months fixtures
Man, that looks a sick month.
