Football Manager Diary S2 – August – That Difficult Second Season
Wrong my friend, we’re going onto bigger and better things. I’m gonna treat season two like I’m John Leslie and its Abi Titmuss. God bless the 90s
Heres how the squad for the season looks after all the signings
The big noticable drop is Guillaume. He probably is going to be on the fringes in this season.
It’s going to be a big season so its worth checking how the assistant took care of our pre season
Ummmm. Fuck. Tho the “game every 2 days” was probably a bad idea for results, but good for the cashflow.
Theres 1 fixture that I checked for straight away. THE SHOWDOWN WITH PETER FUCKING REID
Thats in month 2. I cant fucking wait.
Lets get into it.
2-8-14 – Fleetwood vs Bristol Rovers – League 2
Heres the formation we’re going to start off with. Its the same as last season, with some new players
Man I’m so fucking pumped, this feeling isnt gonna end.
4 minutes in we go 1-0 behind.
From kick off we pop the ball around, end up on the right and its crossed in and Gonzalez equalises! The game dies down till the half hour mark when a long ball forward finds Fletcher, he pauses and smashes the ball past the keeper! 2-1
Into the 2nd half and on 51 minutes this happens
Yes! What a lovely chip from Gonzalez
10 minutes later its 3-2. Fleetwood get a corner and it bobbles round before they smash in. 7 minutes later a good move from them puts McShane through and he hits under Arnold.
I’m throwing on subs trying to make a change. White comes on for Brunt, and he creates a goal, getting through and tapping across as the keeper advances for Fletcher to get his second! 4-3!
10 minutes later McShane gets in behind our defence again, but Arnold stops him. Fleetwood throw everything forward and in injury time they finally get an equaliser, and its that man McShane smashing past a static Arnold.
Fleetwood 4-4 Bristol Rovers
Iwelumo (5), McShane (65, 72, 90+1) – Gonzalez (7,52), Fletcher (32, 76)
League Position – 10th
A great debut by Fletcher, but I’m so annoyed to have dropped points there.
Next up is the Carling cup, and a team in the league above us.
5-8-14 Bristol Rovers vs Peterborough – Carling Cup
Peterborough are massive favourites.
In the early going its even, with Peterborough probably missing the best chance. Jackson is looking a little error prone, and its a slip from him that leads to a goal, a long ball going over his head and Nabi smashes past Arnold. They grab a second, a ball rattles round the box and ends up getting smashed home.
Into the 2nd half I figure the game is one so I bring on Zapata for Brunt. Guillaume gets a good chance to put us back in the game, but chips past the post. Then we get a corner, and Jackson heads in to give us hope – but Peterborough go up the other end and make it 3-1 when Guthrie heads in his own net.
I throw more men forward, but Borough get their 4th from a break. FFS. So of course, we then decide to score, Gonzalez coming off the bench smashes one in from the edge of the area.
Bristol Rovers 2-4 Peterborough
Jackson (66), Gonzalez (90) – Nabi (31), Garbutt (37) Guthrie Own Goal (70), Ball (87)
Eliminated from the Carling Cup
Fuck. I feel like we need a defender and a striker, but theres nothing in wage or transfer budgets. Only one thing for it.
This is me right now
9-8-14 – Bristol Rovers (9th) vs Gillingham (5th)
10 minutes in Chantler latches onto a ball from Gonzalez and gives us the lead. 18 minutes in its 2-0, a ball puts Atkinson through, he crosses and the ball spills to Brunt who scores. 10 minutes later its 2-1, a cross into our box headed in.
At half time its looking pretty even on the score but we’ve had more shots. Gillingham take just 9 minutes to equalise, a cross being smashed home. They continue to press, and 28 minutes left on the clock they get a deep free kick thats smashed in and Chantler slides the ball into his own net. We press back but cant get a goal with Brunt smashing at the keeper. Chantler then gets a chance but the keeper makes a great save. With just 2 minutes left Mozika gets sent off leaving us with 10. Gillingham hold on
Look at these fucking stats
Bristol Rovers 2-0 Gillingham
Chantler (11), Brunt (19) – Marriot (29), Jones (54), Chantler own goal (73)
League Position – 17th
Youve got to be fucking kidding me. Reid is top????
16-8-14 – Carlisle (16th) vs Bristol Rovers (17th)
2 minutes in Fletcher gets in but shoots at the keeper. Its all us, Brunt has a shot tipped over, then Gonzalez hits a shot wide when 1v1. Brunt gets another chance but shoots over. Carlisle break after relentless attacks, but Arnold saves, then 4 minutes later they get another chance and this time Watmore smashes past the keeper. We push back and Gonzalez sweeps in Fletcher but his shot is tipped over the bar. From the corner Jackson heads in! Yes!
Into the second half Fletcher gets another good chance and shoots at the keeper, then just minutes later he gets in again and smashes one in! White comes on for Brunt. We get in again, a cross to Atkinson and the keeper saves, then from the rebound Gonzalez shoots straight at the keeper. Guillaume comes off the bench and immediately gets through but with Fletcher begging for a tap in Gullaume shoots.
Thankfully we dont blow the lead
Carlisle 1-2 Bristol Rovers
Watmore (36) – Jackson (42), Fletcher (47)
League Position – 9th
Sweeney picked up an injury and is out for a month.
23-8-14 – Bristol Rovers (9th) vs Hartlepool (8th)
7 minutes and we get the lead when a cross is ushed in his own net by Malloy. On 20 minutes we get a second Mozika smashing in from the edge of the box. Brunt puts in Gonzalez but he cant score. Its a pretty even match despite the score.
Into the 2nd half and its an absolutely dead match – which is fantastic for us as we hold on
Bristol Rovers 2-0 Hartlepool
Malloy own goal (7), Mozika (20)
League Position – 6th
One last game in the month but before that we do make a signing, a striker who has played more than 75 games in the Premiership.
30-8-14 – Bristol Rovers (6th) vs Burton (11th)
The early chances are all ours, with Gonzalez putting the ball in but he’s offside. On 20 minutes Burton take the lead with an absolute screamer from the edge of the box. Derbyshire isnt playing great, and the final ball isnt helping as it seems to constantly be overhit straight to their keeper.
At the half I try and tell them we need to show more, and it takes just 1 minute for a hightlight, but its at the wrong end and its Arnold pulling off a wonder save to keep us in the match.
Derbyshire has had an awful match and gets hauled off – but the subs make no difference – we lose.
Burton 1-0 Bristol Rovers
League Position – 12th
It was an even match, 10 shots to their 10 but we dominated posession.
Derbyshires performance was really disappointing. I thought he was going to be out new star. I guess theres only really one option, to sign him a friend, someone who knows him and has played with him in the Premiership. A man who deserved to play for England more than the one time he did.
Yeahhhhhh. I fucking love David Dunn.
Hopefully its less this
and more this
Its transfer deadline day and so its time for another last signing on loan
I found him on the loan list, and although he’s two things I hate (ginger and french) he looks pretty good.
He’s followed by ex Man United youngster, who made his debut last season in real life and played well – he’s way too good for us and he signed a very lucrative contract
Heres his stats
I also sign 2 youth players
And a new left back
And the transfer window smashes shut
17? I did sign a few young players but thats mental. A few were permanent deals for loanees, plus 3 loanees. I also signed a couple of youngsters who I didnt mention.
So thats the transfer window done, lets get onto September!
