So we’re in a bit of a weird bit of form. Its good then bad and Im not sure really what to do to change it. We probably weirdly could have done with bringing in a player or two in the window to change things
Hmmm… wait. The window closes on the 2nd
I bring in 2 loanees
And sign 3 centrebacks when I cant decid which one I like most. Whoops
I’m addicted to transfers 🙁
But the window slams shut and Ive got a really important game
3-2-15 – Bristol Rovers vs Oxford – Johnstons Paint Trophy South Final Leg 1
Its me vs Reid. We need to win this to go into the overall final against the Northern final winners
Carruthers makes his debut and Andorian makes the bench.
8 minutes in Oxford take the lead with Wright heading in a corner. FFS. Kellett and Johnson both force good saves, then Brunt grabs an equaliser from a corner. Brunt should score a second on 25 minutes but the keeper saves well, Oxford break and Potter crosses for Clarke to restore their lead. FFS. Clarke then grabs Oxfords third from another corner.
Into the second half and we arent making any roads in so I bring on Derbyshire for Johnson, and start to throw men forwward. With 12 minutes to go Sinnott takes a pot shot from range and it flies in! Bradley has a chance to equalise but the keeper saves, Oxford hold on!
Bristol Rovers 2-3 Oxford
Brunt (16), Sinnott (77) – Wright (8), Clarke (29, 38)
Thank fuck theres a 2nd leg. Fucking Peter Reid.
The next match is also a big milestone
7-2-15 – Bristol Rovers (1st) vs Cheltenham (13th)
I start Adorjan in midfield, and Gonzalez in the AM role.
Gonzalez gives us a first half lead after good work from Mozika. The rest of th 1st half is pretty highlight free, tho the stats show we’re dominating
Into the second, and Cheltenham havent had a highlight. Normally this next bit would be me saying they score, but instead we do, through O’Neill and then another from Andy Johnson!
Bristol Rovers 3-0 Cheltenham
Gonzalez (18), O’Neill (76), Johnson (82)
League Position – 1st
So thats 100 games as a manager, hows my record?
Holy shit, thats pretty good.
Our centre back Jon Guthrie picks up an injury and will be out for 2 months. Good job I bought 3 in January!
Next up is a team that beat us last time
10-2-15 – Bristol Rovers (1st) vs Burton (10th)
Pre match theres an interesting stat
Wow, that needs a countdown.
I’m starting two of the new centre defenders, and the others on the bench. Arrondel and Andonian are the two to make their first starts.
We dominate the first half and Derbyshire gives us the lead after a ball from Atkinson finds him in the box and he hits past the keeper. We have a lot of shots but all to the keeper.
Into the second and Derbyshire has a chance saved. I bring on Di Stefano to make his debut. His arrival comes as Burton pressure and I’m panicing wondering why I used this match to try 3 new centrebacks, but we hold on
Bristol Rovers 1-0 Burton
League Position – 1st
35 points needed for the title
Next up we’ve got another league match, then the 2nd leg of the Oxford match, then Oxford in the league
14-2-15 – Bristol Rovers (1st) vs Accrington (24th)
The perfect warm up. I play a few fringe players, including my reserve goalie, and Lipman in midfield.
So of course we conceed first when they cross in and one of their players is unmarked and volleys home.
Then a long ball from them goes straight to Jackson, and he takes a massive touch then stands there and watches their striker take it, run through 1v1 and score. FUCK OFF
Its all Accrington, attack after attack. 5 minutes before half time we get a chance, but Derbyshires shot is saved.
Into the second and we start to create more, a well worked move finds Johnson who shoots just wide. We then get a corner, and Chantler heads in. With 7 minutes in another corner comes and Brunt volleys in an equaliser!
He’s saved us!
Bristol Rovers 2-2 Accrington
Chantler (54), Brunt (83) – Thirlwell (16), Bowerman (19)
League Position – 1st
34 points needed for the title
Not the kind of result I was hoping for going into the showdown.
Our reserve keeper gets in team of the week. Hmmm.
18-2-15 – Oxford vs Bristol Rovers – Johnstons Paint South Final 2nd leg (3-2)
We need a two goal lead to overturn the 1st leg. If we win we play the northern finalist for the cup
22 minutes in we get the first chance, Sinnott hitting the bar with a long ranger. On 29 minutes tho we’re ahead from a neat move with Derbyshire and Johnson combining for the latter to score. Derbyshire then goes through 1v1 but he fluffs the chance. Just 7 minutes before half time Oxford equalise, and at half time its 1-1
At the break I tell the team to attack, and change it to all out attack.
10 minutes in we have the lead again, Lawrence crossing for Derbyshire to head in. We still need another tho. Atkinson steals the ball in midfield, plays it to Kellett who passes to Derbushire, and he crosses…. Johnson gets a touch on it and the keeper spills it into the goal!!!! We’ve got the 2 goal lead! With 15 minutes to go we get a penalty, and Derbyshire scores! Its 4-1! Oxford need 3 goals in order to win now, with 10 minutes to go they pull it back to 4-2 but we hold on for another cup final!
Oxford 2-4 Bristol Rovers
Norris (39), Potter (80) – Johnson (30), Clarke own goal (57), Derbyshire (69, pen 74)
Its not over tho, we’ll play Mansfield in the final.
Reids got an instant shot at revenge
21-2-15 – Oxford (5th) vs Bristol Rovers (1st)
Oxford are 15 points behind. After the last match I’m giving a rotated squad a game.
53 seconds in we have the lead, Brunt scoring after a Gonzalez through ball. Gonzalez then grabs a goal of his own, chipping the keeper when Brunt puts him through. Oxford pull a goal back when a poor pass goes straight to one of their men and he runs through and scores.
Into the 2nd half, Johnson should score after a free kick rebounds to him but his shot is saved straight to Arondel and the young defender makes no mistake to restore our 2 goal lead! Shortly after tho another of the new defenders, Di Stefano, picks up his second yellow and is sent off.
We have half an hour to defend with 10 men so I go pretty defensive, and Oxford cant break us down. Two wins over Peter Reid in a week!
Oxford 1-3 Bristol Rovers
Clarke (29) – Brunt (1), Gonzalez (13), Arrondel (61) Di Stefano sent off (63)
26 points needed for the title – results have gone our way.
28-2-15 Kidderminster (16th) vs Bristol Rovers (1st)
I give Fletcher and Lipman starts, and its Fletcher who gives us a 6th minute lead with a good finish from the angle.
Aside from the the game is a bore, we have a few chances but nothing significant.
Kidderminster 0-1 Bristol Rovers
League Position – 1st
22 points needed to win the title
Derbyshire is injured and out for 3 weeks. Then Johnson gets injured for 10 days. Then Brunt gets a 3 week injury. What are you up to lads?
Thats the month end!
We get nowhere in the awards. Weird, I was convinced I’d get manager of the month.
The board are happy.
Bradleys definately dropped, tho thats partly as he’s been transfer listed since Jan.
At least that loss isnt very big. Onward and upward!
