FM2019 Diary : Salford Preseason : Buying everyone

So with last times episode ending with Peter Crouch rejecting the chance to come to us on loan, we start this session trying to find someone to replace him. So I get onto the free transfer list and over the course of a few days take 278 players on trial, look at them and then reject them if they aren’t good enough, my favourite being Lee Hendrie who lasts a massive amount of time on trial.

11 minutes from his agreement to the deal being done, and then 8 minutes till I said nah mate see ya.

The board come to me with the expectations and I’m not changing anything.

I will note that before the expectations I moved all transfer budget to the wage budget, so my board decided to give me £4 extra for my transfer budget. Absolute legends, will spend that soon.

Our best centre back Nathan Pond pulls up with an injury for a month in training. Should be back just in time for the start of the season.

I bring in a massive 21 players, all but 4 of them being 20 or under and purely for squad building and future purposes. The three that aren’t are:

Aaron Kuhl is the key signing, hes looking a decent prospect and some good all round stats. Also hes got an afro

Emilio Omam-Biyik – I didn’t have a great option for DM so Emilio looks like he will do for now. Also looks a good man to score a few on corners.

Sam Westley – Cover all across the defence, when he signs I’m delighted to see hes got a 1 in dribbling, finishing, throws, penalties and flair. Fucking hell assistant you shit.

Raheem Hanley – Decent cover across the left, but stats not as good as I expected ☹

We also bring in three loan players

Incidentally in real life after this I happened to go to a Salford FC match, against Dagenham and Redbridge. They won 2-0 in the FA Trophy 3rd Round, where Devante Rodney and Mani Dieseruvwe scored the goals, however it was the efforts of Danny Lloyd that caught the eye he hit the post with a free kick and also set up the tap in that Dieseruvwe scored. Carl Piergianni was someone who I was going to sell but seeing the size of him in real life he was an absolute unit so I decided to keep him, mainly as I’m scared he’d beat me up if he found out I’d sold him. On the other side of the coin I wasn’t very impressed with Josh Askew. I decided I was gonna get rid of him and Dierseruvwe who didn’t impress outside the tap in goal.

And back to the game and with that its time for a press conference! I wonder what we have to talk about

Oh yeah all those signings

With me and the 23 new signings in the same room there was only one option really

If I’d slagged them off they may have battered me

And with all those signings you’re probably thinking I’m done, but with most of them being to build a youth team and bring some players up I still need a couple of signings and the first is my big name star

Looking at the stats Leon Best has scored 10 goals in the last 6 years, and hasn’t scored in 2. He’s gonna be a beast in this league.

I also get given a choice of which team I want to recommend the board link us to and it isn’t pretty reading

I go for Sunderland cause in a nice new feature when I go to make my choice it gives me a list of players I‘m most likely to be able to get on loan.

I immediately bring in Ethan Robson

Dieseruvwe leaves to join York on a free, Horgan signs for Tranmere, Crocombe to Sutton, and Askew goes to Kiddiminster too, that’s about 3k off the wage bil that contributes to around 10 of my new signings 😊

Second Friendly of the season is vs Man United under 18s and I decide to put out what I expect to be my strongest side.

~So here we go with a run of friendlies, I’m going to try and keep these as short as possible, but the first ones a bit long sorry.

Salford FC vs Man United Under 18s

United start with Andre Gomes,Tahith Chong and Matteo Darmian in a decently strong team. I line up like this

6 Minutes in and we’re one behind as Gomes rifles in (0-1) but just a minute later Lloyds corner into the far post is headed across goal by Rooney and Gaffney equalises! (1-1). Two minutes later a corner for United is cleared off the line… straight into my keepers back and into the net (1-2). Gomes is dominating, but we’re still in the game and have a few chances, Gafney doing well down the right a few times. A long ball goes forward in the 35th minute, Best heads it but the defender heads it out… back to Best who takes a touch and smashes in an equalise from outside the box! (2-2). However it doesn’t stay that way at half time as the main man Gomes smashes in a volley just before the break for 2-3 and then in injury time United grab another from a corner to make it 2-4.

Despite the score the shot count is even at half time and I’m actually happy, its just the quality of players making a difference. The second half is quieter, Lloyd hits the post then United grab a 5th after I make a load of subs. That’s the way it stays.

Salford FC 2-5 Man United Under 18s

Despite the score I’m happy, there were some positive signs and we had as many shots as them, but Gomes just ripped us apart when he was on the pitch.

Hednesford vs Salford – Hednesford are two leagues below us so should be an easy win. Unfortunately the match is pretty low key with Hednesford breaking up play with fouls a lot. Eventually tho we get the breakthrough with a great ball playing in Redshaw off the bench to get the winner.
Hednesford 0-1 Salford

Newport Pagnel vs Salford – Another weak team

Theyre really weak. My favourite part of this match is the last 2 minutes plus extra time in the match where I go fully attacking to try and get the goals I need to win 10-0 and end up getting three penalties

Newport Pagnell 0-11 Salford

In a nice news item we have two players n the favourites to be top scorer.

Sadly no goals in 2 years Leon Best is not one of them.

Salford vs Kettering

A home friendly and Im keeping the team the same. Kettering are a league below us so this should be a win. First half is a mare, Kettering better us and take a 1-0 lead into the break. I make my usual load of subs at half time and we get back in the game with Redshaw smashing one home. He then grabs a second but with 9 minutes to go – a deserved second.

Salford 2-2- Kettering

The one thing Ive noticed during the matches is I have no cover on the left wing so I bring in Reece Mitchell on a free

I let my assistant take charge of the last game and we end on a 1-1 draw.

Next update lets get into the season!
